LIFECYCLE: The female lays between 300 to 500 eggs, at a rate of 25 per day. It has a post embryonic life cycle that usually involves four types of larval stages followed by pre-pupal and pupa stages.
FEATURES: Rhyzopertha dominica has a cylindrical shape. It is a long insect, brown in colour, tending to dark reddish. The adult head has the shape of a friar's hood, and is known in Italy as the "Capuchin of Cereals" as a result. Rhyzopertha dominica larvae are curved and round, with brown mouthparts.
HABITAT: the geographical origin of many Bostrichidae Coleoptera is the Indian subcontinent, or its immediate vicinity.
