SPECIES: GERMAN COCKROACH (order Blattodea)
COMMON NAME: cockroach - German Cockroach.
SIZE: Adults 10-14 mm.
LIFECYCLE: Egg - nymph - adult (lives for 3 months); Cycle Period: 90 days; egg sac size: 7-9 mm; No. generations per year: polycyclic; No. female egg sacs: 4 - 8, containing 40 eggs each.
FEATURES: Small reddish-brown cockroach, with two brown parallel bands on the pronotum with a longitudinal course. The female is slightly larger and longer than the male. Both sexes have well developed wings, which are rarely used. The species is very dynamic, prolific and able to climb sheer or vertical walls. They are photosensitive and are gregarious. The ootheca is usually carried until hatching.
HABITAT: Warm, humid, protected environments (30° -33° C), such as hospitals, food processing facilities, restaurants, etc. The species is also found in kitchens, bakeries, and anywhere food is cooked, as well as in drinks and coffee vending machines, industrial dishwashers, air-conditioning systems, food transport trucks, etc.
DIET: Omnivorous.
